We all would like to find that magical solution that would keep us looking young forever. Of course, while we certainly haven’t found the Fountain of Youth just yet, advancements in cosmetic dermatology are coming impressively close. If you are looking for a fast, simple, and non-invasive way to smooth away facial lines and wrinkles, talk with our dermatologist about whether Botox could give you the results you want.
What is Botox?
Botox is a purified, medical-grade neurotoxin that is injected directly into muscle groups of the face. When Botox is injected into the muscles, it reduces the brain-sent signals that cause the muscles to contract. As a result, this cosmetic treatment prevents muscle contractions, thus temporarily reducing the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles.
Botox can be used to smooth away wrinkles between the brows, on the foreheads, around the eyes (crow’s feet), and the mouth (“laugh lines”). In fact, any lines or wrinkles that are accentuated when you frown or smile can often be treated with Botox.
What is it like to get Botox treatment?
Botox is non-invasive and doesn’t require surgery or other aggressive techniques. It only takes our skin doctor a couple of minutes to administer Botox, and these thin needles are well-tolerated by our patients.
Additionally, there is absolutely no downtime associated with receiving Botox, allowing many patients to come in for treatment and return right back to work and their daily routine immediately after. It only takes about 10 minutes to administer Botox and side effects are minimal.
What kind of results should I expect with Botox?
You won’t see results immediately, as it will take the body time to respond to treatment. Most people will see results within 3-4 days and results can last anywhere from 4-6 months. If you’re happy with your results and wish they would last longer, then you can talk with your cosmetic dermatologist about how often you should come in for maintenance treatments.
Whether you have questions about receiving Botox treatment or if you want to find out if you are the ideal candidate for treatment, don’t hesitate to call your dermatologist’s office today to schedule a consultation.
The fountain of youth is, unfortunately, a myth. Luckily, you can tap into its mythical powers in real life with cosmetic dermatological procedures such as Botox. This procedure can help you attain a more youthful appearance in just a single visit with your dermatologist, Dr. Linda Banta at Stone Oak Dermatology in San Antonio, TX.
What is Botox?
Botox is a dermatological procedure which injects a substance directly into the muscle that lies underneath the facial skin. The substance freezes the muscles, allowing the skin on top to smooth out. The process reduces fine lines and wrinkles and gives you a more youthful appearance. Since the skin no longer moves and folds, Botox also helps to prevent new wrinkles from forming.
Are Botox Injections Safe?
Botox has been around for many years and is considered safe. It was FDA-approved in 2002 and has since helped many people reduce their fine lines and wrinkles. It produces minimal side effects; the most common are slight bruising at the injection sites and some swelling and redness.
How does Botox Work?
Your San Antonio, TX, dermatologist will ask you to lie on an examination table and cleanse your skin. Then, they mark which muscles could benefit most from Botox and begin the injections. Dr. Banta injects the Botox substance into the facial muscles by using a fine needle. Most patients report that the procedure feels like a small pinch. The procedure takes only about 15 minutes and has no downtime, meaning patients can go right back to their daily activities. Results of Botox treatment typically last three to four months.

The Benefits of Botox
Want to erase the signs of aging this year? Millions of men and women are discovering the benefits of BOTOX treatments. BOTOX is a medicine that is injected into muscles to erase the signs of aging and treat certain conditions. Dermatologists are physicians who are trained in diagnosing and treating conditions and diseases of the skin. BOTOX is available from dermatologists. Read on to learn about the benefits of BOTOX.
1. It rejuvenates the skin.
BOTOX treatment is an excellent adjunct for rejuvenation of the face. BOTOX should be considered in addition to laser therapy, skin care, chemical peels, and resurfacing to improve the appearance of the face. It tightens and rejuvenizes your skin to help you look and feel younger.
2. It can remove your wrinkles.
BOTOX works by blocking nerve impulses that cause muscles to contract and cause wrinkles. It's commonly injected into the face to eliminate wrinkles. Many patients who get BOTOX treatments can experience an improved complexion without the need for surgery.
3. It can erase smile lines.
For most people, nasolabial folds— also known as smile lines— are nothing to smile about. Smile lines are fine lines that primarily develop around the sides of your mouth. They are more noticeable when you laugh or smile. BOTOX can reduce the appearance of smile lines. BOTOX can improve your look with minimal to no downtime. You will be able to go about your normal routine immediately after your treatment.
4. It can make crow's feet disappear.
Before you know it, crow's feet can leave you looking older than you feel. Crow’s feet are the lines that appear around the eyes. BOTOX is injected into crow’s feet with a tiny needle to improve the skin’s appearance. You may begin to notice the results of your BOTOX treatment within a few days, with results lasting up to 4 months.

Excess facial or body hair can be troublesome for both men and women. Although common, removal methods such as shaving and waxing are temporary, time consuming, painful and often yield poor results. It’s no wonder more and more people are opting for long-lasting, convenient hair reduction via laser hair removal.
With the use of advanced laser technology, your dermatologist can treat most areas of unwanted hair successfully, conveniently and with fewer complications than other methods. Professional laser treatment is a non-invasive approach to permanent reduction of hair, which can easily treat large areas of hair growth in a short period of time.
In-Office Laser Hair Removal
Performed by an expert dermatologist, laser hair removal works by penetrating the skin with controlled pulses of light that are absorbed by the hair follicles. Without damaging the skin and with minimal patient discomfort, the laser energy destroys the hair follicles and significantly impedes their ability to re-grow. Following treatment, patients enjoy smooth, soft skin and a long-lasting reduction in unwanted hair.
Since hair grows in cycles, the total number of required treatment sessions varies by patient skin type, hair color and hair coarseness. Common areas treated with laser hair removal include the legs, arms, back, shoulders, underarms, upper lip and the bikini area. Darker-colored hair is typically more responsive to laser treatment than light colored hair.
It’s important that you always choose an experienced dermatologist for hair removal to ensure the highest level of safety and efficiency. Your dermatologist will discuss the best laser hair removal options for your specific skin type, needs and expectations.

Oh, no! Those lines between your eyebrows make you look angry, and the lines at the corners of your eyes add years to your appearance. What's the best way to eliminate facial lines and wrinkles and to help new ones from forming? BOTOX Cosmetic is an injectable aesthetic treatment that can do just that. Available from Dr. Linda Banta at Stone Oak Dermatology in San Antonio, BOTOX is a quick, minimally invasive way to rejuvenate your appearance and boost your self-image.
What is BOTOX?
It's an FDA-approved form of the botulinum toxin type A, says the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Banta injects it just below the skin in areas of the face that have aged and acquired fine lines through something skin doctors call dynamic wrinkling. Over time, when you smile, frown, whistle or otherwise use the muscles of your face to express your emotions, the skin moves and creases with the movement of the underlying musculature.
What results are frown lines between your eyebrows and across your forehead, "marionette" lines on the corners of the mouth, "crow's feet" around your eyes and vertical lines around the lips. While moisturizers help lessen the appearance of these wrinkles, they are still indicators of wear and tear, aren't they? If the action of the underlying facial muscles would lessen, so would the lines and creases.
The BOTOX treatment
BOTOX limits the movement of facial muscles for San Antonio area patients Dr. Banta determines are good candidates for the injections. She administers them in one quick visit and repeats them every four to six months as needed. Dr. Banta may apply a topical anesthetic or ice to the areas receiving treatments to minimize discomfort and reduce the small amount of bruising and swelling that may happen after BOTOX treatments.
After Dr. Banta injects BOTOX, patients notice a smoothing of their wrinkles fairly quickly, progressing throughout the rest of the day and maximizing in about 10 days or so.
Could you benefit from BOTOX?
Many people qualify for these amazing treatments. Dr. Banta will tell you if you are a good candidate when she sees you at Stone Oak Dermatology in San Antonio for a complimentary consultation.
