PRP Skin Rejuvenation

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections have various uses, from helping athletes heal more quickly from sports injuries to combatting signs of facial aging. At Stone Oak Dermatology, we love using PRP treatments to give our patients a glowing complexion.

Our team of skilled physician assistants and aestheticians, led by board-certified dermatologist Dr. Linda Banta, are experts in the latest skincare advancements like PRP. Read on or contact us at 210-494-0504 to learn more about this revolutionary treatment.

How Do Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatments Work?

Platelet-rich plasma is a component of blood that promotes healing. During a PRP appointment, your own filtered plasma is injected into the treatment areas. This boosts collagen production for more youthful skin. PRP can also be used as a hair loss treatment

In a clinical setting, PRP injections can be administered around the joints to promote healing. It’s an increasingly popular treatment for arthritis and may speed recovery from rotator cuff tears or sports injuries.

What Happens During PRP Treatments?

During a PRP treatment, one of our providers will draw a small amount of blood (about two to four tablespoons) from your arm. Then, they'll put the drawn blood into a centrifuge to separate it into layers. Once it's filtered, your provider will take the section with the highest concentration of platelets and use a syringe or microneedling device to inject the solution.

While PRP skin rejuvenation might look a little scary, most patients experience very little discomfort if any. Local anesthesia can also be used if you have sensitive skin. Appointments typically take 45 minutes to an hour and require virtually no downtime.

How Many PRP Treatments Will I Need?

The number of PRP treatments you’ll need depends on your unique cosmetic concerns and goals. Most patients start with a series of three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Our providers can make a more specific recommendation at your consultation.

What Are the Benefits of PRP Skin Rejuvenation?

When used as a cosmetic treatment, PRP skin rejuvenation can combat signs of aging and improve your complexion. Our patients typically notice the following benefits:

  • Diminished wrinkles
  • Fewer deep creases
  • Faded acne scars
  • Firmer and plumper skin
  • An overall glow

How Long Does It Take To See PRP Results for Skin?

Because PRP promotes natural skin remodeling and collagen production, your results won't appear instantly. Many patients start to see the benefits, including fewer fine lines, less hyperpigmentation, and a radiant complexion, about three to six weeks after their initial treatment.

How Long Do PRP Results Last?

Once you’ve completed your initial series of PRP skin rejuvenation treatments, you can typically expect to enjoy your new youthful glow for about six to 12 months. After that, you can maintain your PRP facial results with appointments once or twice a year.
