Every year in March, we celebrate Women’s History Month. This is an excellent time to recognize and honor the contributions of remarkable women across various fields, from science and medicine to education and leadership.
At Stone Oak Dermatology, we take this opportunity to highlight Dr. Linda Banta, a leader in cosmetic and medical dermatology, dedicated community advocate, and distinguished veteran. Her impact on the medical field and the San Antonio area makes her a true inspiration.
A Distinguished Career in Dermatology
Dr. Banta’s medical journey began with a B.A. in Chemistry, Biology, and German from the University of Texas at Austin. She then pursued her medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, where she was commissioned as a military officer. Her early career included an internship in emergency medicine at Naval Hospital Pensacola, followed by service as an emergency medicine physician in Pensacola and Bethesda.
In 1988, Dr. Banta was selected for a dermatology residency at the Naval Hospital San Diego. After finishing her training, she remained at the hospital as a faculty member and was recognized with the Outstanding Faculty Award for her contributions to dermatology education. She completed her military service as a Navy Commander before transitioning to private practice, where she has spent over 17 years delivering exceptional dermatologic care.
A Leader in Medicine & Community Service
Beyond her clinical expertise, Dr. Banta has devoted her time to advancing public health and community involvement.
While practicing in Texas, she served as President of the American Heart Association in Clearlake, TX, and earned the Outstanding Regional Volunteer Award. Since relocating to San Antonio, she has become a critical member of the Stone Oak Business Association, continuing her commitment to supporting local initiatives.
Dr. Banta is also a published author and frequent speaker at national medical conferences, where she shares her expertise with fellow dermatologists. Her dedication has earned her the honor of being named one of San Antonio’s Top Doctors, a testament to her skill, compassion, and leadership.
